GM India has launched Chevrolet sail sedan at an initial price tag of Rs. 4.99 lakh in both petrol and diesel(7.52 lakh) variants. The Sail range consists of 8 variants with 4 being petrol and 4 being diesel based. This new C segment sedan will offer competition to the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Toyota Etios and a few others. Standing as testimony on just how important the Indian market is to General Motors is the recently unveiled SMARTECH engine that has incidentally been locally developed at GM India’s Technical Research Center in Bangalore and will be produced at the company’s Talegaon facility. The four cylinders, 1199cc SMARTECH engine has a direct impact on maximizing fuel economy. The company has done up the base variant of this Chevrolet Sail Sedan with a lot of lavishness and have bestowed it with some impressive features. Apart from the interesting insides, the company has also done up the exteriors of this petrol sedan astutely and have blessed it with several striking features. With newfound synergies and a strong agenda for the Indian market, GM India is now looking at capitalizing on this key market. The first of many surprises to come from the company is already here in the form of the SMARTECH engine which houses in sail sedan that has a dual overhead cam shaft and four cylinders, while the diesel version gets the tried and true 1.3-litre Multijet engine from Fiat. The Chevrolet Sail petrol sedan offers 18.2 kmpl while the Sail sedan diesel hands out 22.1 kmpl.
